About Dr. Markway
Barbara G. Markway, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and co-author of Dying of Embarrassment, Painfully Shy, Nurturing the Shy Child, and Illuminating the Heart. She has been interviewed on Good Morning America and The Today Show, as well as numerous national radio programs. In addition, she has been featured in newspapers such as The New York Times and in national magazines including American Health, Essence, Prevention, Shape and Women’s World. Dr. Markway has nearly twenty years of clinical and counseling experience. She has also conducted over 500 psychological evaluations. She is currently in private practice with Markway Psychological Associates, LLC.

Dr. Markway received a Doctorate of Philosophy degree and a Master of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in journalism and a minor in psychology from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Experience
Dr. Markway is a licensed psychologist in the state of Missouri. She is currently in private practice where she spends approximately 75% of her time doing forensic work and 25% doing clinical work. She has previously practiced at Capital Region Medical Center and at St. Marys Mental Health Services in Jefferson City, Mo. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Behavioral Medicine at St. Louis University Medical Center and a psychology intern at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis.
Dr. Markway taught undergraduate child psychology and graduate-level behavior therapy at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, 1987-1992. In 1993-1995, she was the off-site clinical supervisor for students in the doctoral psychology program at Washington University.
